Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage

It isn't your typical weekend marriage seminar. First of all, it will occur on just one day—Saturday, November 13, 2010, from 8am till 3pm. This DVD experience will have couples laughing, and learning to make real, positive changes to their marriages. Mark Gungor, pastor of Celebration Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is the creator of Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage. Mark explores the underlying dynamics of male/female relationships, bringing striking clarity and practical solutions to common relationship woes.

Mark's entertaining illustrations are so hilarious and original that you'll be sharing them with all your friends. His humor makes his teaching enjoyable, effective and memorable, helping husbands and wives remember these insights and immediately put them to work.

Mark your calendars as a couple for November 13. Watch for a sign up sheet on the Pastors' Board, and please note that there will be a nominal charge for this event. Questions, see Pr. Rich.

Lutheran World Relief Blanket Drive PDF Print E-mail
Written by St. Michael Connections
Friday, 27 August 2010 00:00

The 2010 Blanket Drive runs from September 4 through October 9, 2010.  This annual blanket and quilt collection gives our members a great opportunity to be God's helpers to people in disaster areas of our own country and foreign nations as the need arises.

New and gently used, clean blankets are acceptable, and new bars of soap (in original wrapper) are also collected year 'round for LWR to be delivered with the blankets.  One bar of soap is a real health-blessing where none is available in disaster areas.

A $5 donation to LWR will purchase one blanket if you prefer to support the ministry in that way.  Be generous as the Lord has blessed you.  Simply place your gift in one of the pew envelopes and mark ìblanket driveî in the memo line on the front of the envelope along with your name for proper credit.

NOOMA on Tuesdays PDF Print E-mail
Written by St. Michael Connections
Friday, 27 August 2010 00:00

Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it.  He encouraged His listeners to search, to question, to wrestle with the implications of what He was saying and doing.  He inspired, challenged, provoked, comforted, and invited people to be open to God's work in this world.  Wherever He went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in.  NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from the perspective of Jesus.  NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion.  No previous Bible study required.

Tuesday evenings, starting on Sept. 14 at 7 pm in the Chapel we'll begin with praise music and then watch a short 15-minute video and follow with discussion questions.

Saturday Book Discussion resumes on September 18, 2010 at 9:00 am in the Library, with a thought-provoking new book, The Christian Atheist, by recovering Christian atheist, Craig Groeschel.

The Christian Atheist is an honest, hard-hitting and eye-opening look into the ways people profess to believe in God but live as if He doesn't exist. From his own lapses in faith as a young man to the painful self-admission he had to make as an established pastor, Groeschel's own journey will immerse you and challenge you into a deeper, Christ-filled life.

Look for the sign-up on the Pastor's Board.  Contact Pr. Joe with any questions, 734-459-3333 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Many years ago a few lovely St. Michael Lutheran ladies organized our first Advent by Candlelight.  And now more than 20 years later Advent by Candlelight has become the highlight of our Women's Ministry Christmas season.  There is something magical about this special evening the candles, the friendships, the music and of course the desserts.

This year, celebrating our 21st Advent by Candlelight, we will meet Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 7 pm.  Please feel free to call me if you areinterested in serving as a hostess, providing a dessert for our dessert buffet, helping out with set-up, or offering to share with us the gift of music.  Sign-ups will be posted in good time on the Women's Ministry Board in the Narthex.  Watch The Happenings for more information.

In His service, Lorna Trager (734) 513-4029
